Vreen To Be Tried Again Next Month
James A. Vreen, charged with killing three teenagers in a Peaceful Valley car wreck, is scheduled to stand trial a second time on June 15.
Vreen, 20, stood trial in April, but jurors were unable to reach a verdict.
He is charged with three counts of vehicular homicide for the deaths of Alicia Easterwood, 14, and Katherine Campbell and John Rohloff, both 18.
They were passengers in Vreen’s 1986 Buick Regal when he lost control Nov. 2 on Clarke Avenue. The car slid down an embankment and struck a tree at high speed.
Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Andy Metts said he will try again to prove that Vreen was speeding and driving recklessly. Defense attorney Doug Boe will argue that Vreen, who wasn’t drunk, lost control of the vehicle on a bad stretch of road.
The defendant is being held in the Spokane County Jail.
