Building Evacuated After Gas Line Breaks

A backhoe accidentally hit and ruptured a natural gas main at the High Tech Building at 6310 East Seltice Way Wednesday morning.

The High Tech Building was evacuated and Washington Water Power shut off the gas line. No one was hurt and the leak did not catch fire.

“It was a fairly substantial leak. It was a two-inch main,” said Lt. Larry Sande, of the Kootenai County Fire Protection District. The pressure in the main was about 60 pounds per square inch, he estimated.
