Logan, Gu Form Group To Address, Solve Issues
Logan neighbors and Gonzaga University officials are trying to form a “solutions group” after a recent town-hall meeting between the two groups raised concerns about noise and alcohol related parties in the area.
The goal is to foster communication between all parties living in the Logan neighborhood.
Residents say off-campus partying has increased this school year. Students say the party scene has actually simmered down from years past.
Here are two things neighbors and campus officials would like to see from the group.
More representation from all groups - including more neighbors, on- and off-campus students, a student body officer, a representative from the Dean of Students Office, COPS Logan and Logan Neighborhood Council representatives and Logan neighborhood landlords.
These could be rotating positions, and, once the program is in place, the group could meet two to three times a year.
Student participation is critical to this effort. Only a handful appeared at a recent meeting about the matter.
Another meeting between neighborhood and campus officials may take place sometime in June to go over items that will be included in next year’s student orientation packets, which will be mailed to all new and returning students in July.
People are encouraged to call COPS Logan at 625-3333, and leave their name and number, if they are interested in being part of the solutions group or have any suggestions or ideas.
Gonzaga students are taking finals and graduation is days away. Neighbors are encouraged to contact Gonzaga Security at 328-4220, or Crime Check, 456-2233, if problem parties or incidents occur.
COPS Logan at 1030 N. Hamilton also files incident reports, Tuesday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m.
