Lucky Baby

A baby boy thrown 20 feet from his mother’s arms when she was hit by a car escaped with only a scraped knuckle.

His mother suffered a broken bone in her shoulder.

Angela Jeffery, 30, of Wenatchee, was carrying 10-monthold Jacob in her arms as she crossed a city intersection Tuesday night and was hit by a car, Police Officer Paul Hughes said Wednesday.

Jacob flew out of his mother’s arms and landed on the pavement, and his mother bounced off the car’s windshield and rolled away, firefighters and police at the scene said.

Jeffery and Jacob were treated at Central Washington Hospital here and released.

“She’s a lucky woman, and he’s a lucky kid,” paramedic Shawn Ballard said, adding that the boy had only a scraped knuckle.

The driver of the car, Jordan Barb, 18, of Wenatchee, has not been cited, Hughes said. The accident is still under investigation.
