Faces Red Over Browne’S Addition Typo
Historic Browne’s Addition residents were aghast when they unfurled the new green and gold banner to hang above the entrance to their neighborhood just in time for Bloomsday.
The “e” was missing from pioneer J.J. Browne’s name. The sign reads “Welcome to Historic Brown’s Addition.”
A Washington Water Power crew raised the banner above the street anyway.
“It’s an embarrassment,” said Dean Lynch, a member of the neighborhood steering committee that ordered the banner.
The sign company that made the banner apologized for the misspelling and is replacing it.
In the meantime, the banner still waves over the neighborhood that is hosting hundreds more this weekend for the annual Mother’s Day tour of historic homes.
Steering committee member James De Paolo wonders if the missing letter might provide a fund-raising opportunity.
“Anyone want to buy a vowel?” he asked.
