Letters To The Editor

Give us a break, CV

Central Valley School District is proposing a $78 million bond to replace its two high schools. The effort to translate the $78 million into something that sounds more reasonable to individual homeowners is under way.

One school board member was quoted in a recent newspaper article saying, “Assuming my house is worth $100,000, it’s going to cost me three lattes a month or a night out at the movies.” That tired, trite argument has outlived its usefulness.

I’m already paying enough property taxes to buy 85 lattes a month and a night out at the movies 30 times a month.

Will there ever be enough money to properly educate our children? How much is enough and how much of the load can the property owner carry?

I’m ready for a respite from increasing property taxes.

Do you have something to say? Letters to the editor (up to 250 words) are an excellent forum for readers who wish to respond to something that has appeared in the Voice or share their ideas, observations and opinions on Valley events and issues. Guest columns (up to 650 words) are not intended to simply be longer letters to the editor, but rather are reserved for those occasions when a more detailed opinion or analysis piece is in order. My Voice columns (up to 650 words) provide an opportunity for Valley residents to share personal experiences and observations that have somehow shaped their opinion or outlook on life. All letters and columns are subject to editing. Please be sure to sign your full name to your letter or column and include a daytime phone number where you can be reached for verification.
