Federal Judge Halts Strike By Bn Workers
Burlington Northern railroad workers were off the job for seven hours Tuesday before a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order halting the strike.
U.S. District Judge Robert B. Maloney of Dallas issued the order Tuesday to end the walkout by members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. Attorneys for the Fort Worth-based railroad sought the action.
David Joynt, general chairman of the Burlington System Division’s rail maintenance workers union, said he told his 2,500 workers to return to work after the judge issued the order.
The union’s members work in Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota.
