Driver Says Bullets Hit His Pickup

From Staff

Someone opened fire on a pickup truck that stopped for a traffic light in north Spokane. Two bullets hit the truck, narrowly missing the driver and his 3-year-old daughter, police said.

The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Wellesley and Crestline.

The man driving the pickup said he had just stopped for the light when a bullet smashed through the rear window. A second shot hit the roof, he said. Neither the driver nor his daughter was hurt.

The unidentified man drove away and called police.

Officers immediately went to a house near the intersection.

The home, on the 2000 block of E. Wellesley, has been a source of trouble in the neighborhood, police spokesman Dick Cottam said. Police have gone there at least 20 times in the last two years to investigate a variety of complaints.

Officers searched the house and found a rifle in the attic along with a number of shell casings, Cottam said.

They also interviewed and checked the identification of 10 people, ranging in age from 13 to 20, who were at the house at the time.

No one was arrested, but detectives are still investigating the case.
