Give CV kids a break

This is in response to Bob Blum’s letter about the Central Valley bond issue (Valley Voice, May 9).

I am 71 years old and a new resident of the Valley.

I lived most of my life in School District 81 and have always been proud of the support given our schools.

I feel that our taxes are an investment in good government and good schools.

Our children are investments in our future.

Our state constitution requires basic education be funded for our children.

It is my hope that Mr. Blum will reconsider his position and give CV kids a break. Rich Hobbs Veradale

Thanks for seeing real impact of project

This letter is in response to the recent article concerning the denial for a zone change to build a housing project in the Spokane Valley at 16th and Dishman-Mica (Valley Voice, May 7).

The county hearing examiner, Mike Dempsey is a smart, educated man whose job it is to look at the facts from both sides, as well as the county’s plans for growth in the Spokane Valley, and make a decision based on such.

I’m sure Mr. Dempsey was not basing his denial on “emotion and misinformation,” as stated by Jim Frank, who wants to develop the property.

This project is not strictly for low-income families to enable them to buy affordable housing. A large percentage of the homes to be built will be for profit thus enabling the purchase of more land to build the same type of housing project elsewhere.

Is it truly impossible to build affordable housing in the Valley since this one try did not work? Never again will they be able to come up with a better idea on how to build affordable homes if they do not get this one piece of property?

I thank Mr. Dempsey for seeing the real impact this project would have on the neighborhood and to see through Mr. Frank’s claim of needing to develop this property for affordable-housing for low-income people. Scott Syme Chester Hills
