Tour The Old Growth
Mount Spokane State Park
A guided tour of Mount Spokane old-growth forests is being offered to a limited number of people on June 6.
The Friends of Mount Spokane have arranged to have forest pathologists Dr. Arthur Partridge of the University of Idaho, and his wife, Dr. Catherine Bertagnolli, to join with park rangers Peter Wood and Kary Peterson in leading the tour.
The guides will compare the vitality of a regenerating logged forest with a fully mature natural forest, said Cris Currie, Friends spokesman.
The tour will last four to five hours and will be followed by a potluck dinner.
Participants will meet at 10 a.m., rain or shine, at Selkirk Lodge, next to the cross-country ski area parking lot. The tour requires car-pooling, a 4.5-mile walk and a sack lunch.
To ensure a spot on the tour, leave a message with your phone number and the number of people in your group on the Friends message line at 467-9343 by June 2.
