WSU Riot Suspect Released From Jail
A 24-year-old Washington State University student accused of participating in the May 3 riot was released from jail Thursday after spending several days incarcerated in Denver.
U.S. Customs agents arrested Clinton Cole Yates at the Denver airport on charges connected to the riot. He was returning from a trip to Mexico at the time of his arrest.
Whitman County authorities say Yates was one of the rioters who charged police with fencing torn from a nearby construction site.
Accused of felony riot, he was released from Denver County Jail after family members posted $5,000 bond. An extradition hearing is set for next week.
Relatives called the Whitman County prosecutor’s office several times this week attempting to negotiate Yates’ release. He was scheduled to begin a finance internship Thursday.
