Colville and Freeman qualified for the State 2A/1A fastpitch softball tournament by winning twice during Friday’s District 7-2A/1A tournament at Medical Lake.
Colville (22-0) and Freeman (18-4) will play for the district championship at 5:45 p.m. today in Medical Lake.
The winner will be the No. 1 seed to next weekend’s state tourney in Yakima. The loser will play at 7:45 to determine the district’s Nos. 2 and 3 seeds to state.
Four teams are in the running for the consolation game. Riverside and Chewelah, both 12-10, play at 4, as do Kettle Falls (11-11) and Pullman (12-10). The 4 p.m. winners play a winner-to-state game at 5:45, then meet the Colville/Freeman loser at 7:45.
Colville opened with a 6-3 win over ML as Tarrah Brown pitched a four-hitter and struck out 12. No team had scored three runs off Colville since April 4.
Brown then pitched a one-hitter and fanned 11 in a 4-0 win over Pullman. Julie Pollastro’s sixth-inning slap single was the Greyhounds’ lone hit. Ellen Shaw had a two-run triple and scored in the first.
Pullman defeated Riverside 4-0 to open the day. Alison Keck threw a two-hitter, Jessica Wolfson had a two-run double in the second, and Kelly Schnider added two RBIs.
Heather Hoxie hit a grand slam in the third and added an RBI triple as Chewelah opened with a 6-1 win over Kettle Falls. KF’s Vonda Holland had a solo homer in the seventh.
KF rebounded with a 9-8 win that eliminated Deer Park (9-13). Chas Utter had an RBI single in the second and a two-run single in the fifth, and Rachael Kinservik retired the final five batters to preserve the win.
Freeman defeated Deer Park and Chewelah to make the title game. No details were reported.
Riverside bounced back from its loss to Pullman for a 7-5 win that eliminated Medical Lake (8-14).
Region IV-4A
The four opening-round games at Franklin Park were postponed by wet grounds and shifted to this morning.
All 12 tourney games are scheduled today, beginning at 10 a.m. with Richland vs. University and Ferris vs. Wenatchee. Shadle Park vs. Eisenhower and Pasco vs. Mead are scheduled at noon.
The championship and consolation games of the double-elimination tourney are scheduled for 8 p.m. Four teams advance to the State 4A tourney next weekend in Vancouver.
