Senators To Have Ecosystem Hearing
Two Northwest senators will conduct a hearing Thursday in Spokane on the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project.
The hearing will be at Spokane City Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be chaired by U.S. Sens. Larry Craig and Slade Gorton, Idaho and Washington Republicans.
The senators will hear from five panels, including people from the Clinton administration, state officials and others.
The Ecosystem Management Project is a broad assessment of public lands managed by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management in eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, Montana, a bit of Wyoming, Nevada and Utah.
The study is a popular platform for politicians. Just last month, U.S. Rep. Helen Chenoweth, R-Idaho, had a hearing in Idaho focused on criticism of the project.
