Restroom Fire Causes $1,000 Damage

A fire set in the women’s restroom at Brown’s Park over the weekend caused about $1,000 in damage, Valley fire investigators said.

An arsonist apparently set a roll of toilet paper on fire in the handicapped-accessible toilet at the park, located at 32nd and Pines. The heat broke the toilet and caused minor smoke damage, investigators said.

The fire burned itself out. A park employee discovered the damage Sunday morning. The fire appeared by have been set Saturday night or Sunday morning, officials said.

Park vandalism is an ongoing problem, especially in warmer months, park officials said.
