Gonzaga Men Triumph Again

Gonzaga University’s onrushing Bulldogs ran their unbeaten streak to 11 games Sunday, when they came from behind for a 2-1 victory over Oregon State in non-conference men’s play at Corvallis, Ore.

Jeremy Clark connected for the game-winner, his first goal of the season, after 88 minutes, 32 seconds. The victory left Gonzaga with an 11-3-2 record.

Oregon State (6-8-1) led 1-0 after Ben Roth scored at 10:12. Gonzaga evened the scored just after 33 minutes when Brett Fink put the ball past Beavers goalkeeper Bryan Hill for his team-leading seventh goal.

Whitworth College (9-9, 7-9 Northwest Conference) concluded its season by defeating Linfield (10-10, 8-8) 3-0 at McMinnville, Ore.

Rich Wells scored for the Pirates after 4 minutes. John Kallis and Lenny Peterson added goals in the second half.

Women’s soccer

Kyla Sabo scored twice and added an assist to lead California (11-7, 5-2 Pacific-10 Conference) past Washington State (5-10-3, 3-4-1) 3-0 at Pullman.

Gonzaga (4-11-2, 0-5-1 West Coast Conference) and Pepperdine (6-7-4, 0-4-2) both failed to capitalize on excellent scoring chances in the final 5 minutes of overtime as the teams battled to a scoreless tie on Gonzaga’s Martin Field.

Linfield (7-13, 5-11 Northwest Conference) capped its most successful season by defeating Whitworth (6-12-1, 5-10-1) 2-1 in a season finale at McMinnville, Ore.

Emily Baker’s fourth goal in two games broke a 1-1 tie at the 65-minute mark.

Montana unleashed 34 shots and overpowered Eastern Washington 2-0 in a Big Sky Conference match at Cheney.

Thanks to Eagles goalkeeper Amy Schmitt, who had 20 saves, the Grizzlies did not score until Karen Hardy connected in the 68th minute.
