Third Detour Route Opened Around Slide

From Staff

Local commercial traffic is moving freely through Boundary County now that a third local detour route has been opened around the Highway 95 mudslide.

On Sunday, the Idaho Transportation Department opened up the District 2, “Blume Hill” road, to one-way traffic heading south. Northbound traffic is being routed on the District 5 road.

Flaggers are controlling traffic, with support from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Department and Idaho State Police. One driver was cited Sunday for driving north on the Blume Hill road.

Commercial truck traffic no longer has to travel during certain windows and can drive the routes 24 hours a day. Local traffic also can use the Westside Road. Insterstate traffic still is being routed through Troy, Mont.

Transportation officials say reconstruction of the old Highway 95 is nearing completion, and it may be open to all traffic by the end of the week.

The road was washed out when a mudslide struck Oct. 16 in the construction area for a highway realignment project.
