Adams County Othello

Students at Hiawatha Elementary School say they’ll read for 1 million minutes this year. Kids keep track of after-school reading time and report it to their teachers. Quick tally: 1 million minutes is about 694 days of reading.

Ferry County Republic

The Friends of the Library are hosting a bake sale with a twist: There are no baked goods to buy. The “stay at home bake sale” asks people to donate the cost of making or buying baked items.

Grant County Ephrata

Property owners in Greenfield Estates protested a proposal to become part of Ephrata’s interim urban growth area, fearing inclusion will affect their property rights and rural lifestyle.

Lincoln County Wilbur

County Lines recently reported the Wilbur Downtown Revitalization Committee supplied the paint for Dane Rice, a local Eagle Scout candidate, to clean up the Senior Citizens Center. In fact, the senior center supplied the paint and materials and the Wilbur Downtown Partnership helped Rice find volunteer painters.

Pend Oreille County Cusick

Construction of the county’s second Habitat for Humanity home is under way. The land is being prepared, with volunteer leaders planning to form the footings and level the lot for concrete. Volunteer labor is needed every Saturday at Second and Timber streets. Those with time to give during the week are also welcome.

Spokane County Cheney

The Cheney Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs will sponsor an auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Pence Union Building on the Eastern Washington University campus. Sale items include speaker phones, symphony tickets and a week’s stay at Lake Chelan. Tickets are $10 per person, which includes two drinks and appetizers. Call (509) 235-8480 for more information.

Stevens County Colville

Residents who want to take advantage of the fall leaf pick-up should get moving. They have until Monday to rake, pile or bag leaves for city crews to pick up. Anyone wishing to get leaves for their garden can contact the street department at (509) 684-8165.

Whitman County Pullman

Washington State University’s ski team and Outdoor Recreation Center will hold its 24th annual WSU ski swap Saturday at the Hollingberry Field House from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

IDAHO

Benewah County St. Maries

Barbara Vineyard has replaced Ingrid Liljeroos as a full-time dispatcher at the Benewah County sheriff’s office. Guy Cordle was hired as a part-time dispatcher.

Bonner County Priest River

The Priest River Food Bank is now accepting applications for Thanksgiving baskets. Applications can be picked up and returned to Priest River Laundromat, Priest River City Hall and at the Food Bank, and they must be turned in by Nov. 16. Baskets can be picked up Nov. 24 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Community Church Horizon Center Gym in Priest River. For information, call (208) 437-0143.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

The O.E.S. Craft Fair and Luncheon will begin at 9 a.m. Friday. The luncheon will be served at 11 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall and homemade gifts will also be available.

Kootenai County Post Falls

Mumbo Jumbo, a rhythm and blues band, will hold a community benefit concert 7-9 p.m. Nov. 20 at Coeur d’Alene Greyhound Park. Proceeds benefit TESH training and job placement specialists and North Idaho Special Olympics. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door, and are available at TESH, Hastings and The Long Ear in Coeur d’Alene, and Replay Music in Spokane.

Latah County Troy

The Troy High School Drama Club will be presenting three one-act comedies today through Saturday.

The plays will begin at 7 p.m. today and Friday, and 3 p.m. Saturday at the school’s auditorium. “Three on a Bench,” by Doris Estrada, “Commercials,” by Conrad E. Davidson and “Great Smokies,” by Le Roma Greth are the three plays scheduled. Admissions is $2 for students and $4 for adults.

Shoshone County Wallace

The Shoshone County Interagency Multi-Disciplinary Child Abuse/Protection team will hold a public informational meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Kellogg Middle School library at 800 Bunker Avenue in Wallace. The Task Force establishes guidelines for the investigation of child abuse or neglect, reviews the handling of cases within the child protective act and suggests changes if the present procedure appears not to be successful.

Lincoln County Libby

The Lincoln County sheriff’s office has put out a warning to local businesses for anyone trying to cash American Express traveler’s checks in French 100-franc denominations. They claim the checks are were $100, while a 100-franc traveler’s check is worth $18.
