A recent citizen’s poll shows 77 percent support of a proposed indoor swimming pool and community center. The complex has an estimated price tag of $5 million. This is the third survey that has shown support for the project. The city spent $18,000 on a feasibility study, and should have the results before the new year.

Malo
County residents are invited to a workshop on forest health Nov. 12. Biologists will be on hand to answer questions about insects, critters, tree disease and other issues. The workshop starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Malo Grange. The meeting is sponsored by the WSU Cooperative Extension.

One man’s meal is another man’s Monet. The Adam East Museum is calling for entries into its annual potato-inspired art show. Working with the theme “Baked, Mashed or Fried,” area residents will vie for $550 in cash prizes for their artistic interpretations of spuds. Last year’s grand prize winner “Baked Potato Princess,” by Jeff Kalin, will be hard to beat, but local artists are urged to try. For entry information, call (509) 766-9395.

It’s Turkey Bingo time again! Residents of Sprague are invited to try to win their Thanksgiving feast in the annual bingo fund-raiser. Hosted by the local Chamber of Commerce, the event is set for Sunday at the Sprague Community Hall, starting at 1 p.m. and continuing until all birds are won. Funds raised go toward the community hall, scholarship funds and visits by Santa and the Easter Bunny.

A local volleyball and basketball standout will be California-bound next fall. Carey Sauer made a verbal commitment to the University of San Francisco last week. Recruited by WSU, EWU, the University of Utah and Long Beach State to play both sports, Sauer says she chose San Francisco because it offered her a basketball-only scholarship. She will sign her intent letter later this month.

Cheney Care Center Administrator Keith Fauerso has been elected to a three-year term as a delegate for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). The national organization represents nursing homes and retirement communities in the United States and Canada.

The Colville Main Street Program will hold its annual “Ale and Art” festival Saturday at the historic Barman’s Building. Pullman residents are displaying yellow ribbons this week to protest hate crimes locally and nationally. The “Tie a Yellow Ribbon for Freedom and Justice,” week is being promoted by YWCA of Washington State University in conjunction with the Northwest Coalition Against Violence and Malicious Harassment. Yellow ribbons are available at the YWCA table in the Compton Union Building and the WSU Women’s Resource Center.

Gene Peet, owner of Peet Shoe Dryers, has received the National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee. Peet was chosen for his work as co-chairman of the committee’s business advisory council.

The Bonner Business Center will open its new recycled glass processor and kiln Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the center’s recycling bay. The equipment was purchased with a $7,600 grant to fund a research program designed to develop uses for recycled glass. Recycling workshops and other activities with the program are scheduled over the next six months. The Bonner Business Center is located at 804 Airport Way. The West Bonner County Food Bank is now accepting applications for Thanksgiving baskets. Applications can be picked up at Priest River Laundromat, Priest River City Hall, Oldtown City Hall or at the Food Bank, 103 N. Washington, in Oldtown. Applications must be returned by Nov. 16. A six-hour workshop for current and prospective small business owners will take place Nov. 20 in Post Falls.
The workshop covers legal issues, taxes, insurance, financing, accounting and marketing. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at North Idaho Training Center, 525 W. Clearwater Loop.
The workshop is sponsored by Service Corps of Retired Executives and Mountain West Bank.

The Moscow Food Co-op has scheduled a gourmet dinner November 19 to raise money for the co-op’s move to a new location and the remodeling needed at that new site.
Dinner will be at the Louisiana Purchase banquet hall in Moscow beginning at 6 p.m., and will feature 10 different gourmet lasagnas, organic wines, classical guitar music by James Reid and a silent auction of 30 donated items and gift certificates. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased in advance from the Moscow Food Co-op at 310 West Third Street.

Old Mission State Park Ranger Roger Howard has been named “Ranger of the Year” by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Howard has worked at the Old Mission State Park for eight years and this is the first year he was won the award. He is also the first ranger from the Old Mission State Park to be honored. Howard was chosen by fellow state park employees from about 50 rangers for the department’s highest honor.
