Boeing Will Ask For Holiday Workers

Boeing Co., hustling to meet its commercial jet production goals this year, plans to ask up to 10,000 Seattle-area employees to work during the Thanksgiving weekend.

The company also expects to ask an undetermined number of employees to volunteer for work during the annual Christmas shutdown from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3. Assembly lines will be slowed during that period but not halted.

The company still faces a big job of delivering its goal of 546 jetliners this year.

As of the beginning of November, Boeing was 129 airplanes short of its 1998 delivery target.

Union officials say they expect no shortage of volunteers.
