Salute To War Effort

Three World War II stamps, representing a generation of both unparalleled hardship and achievement, were unveiled Tuesday by the U.S. Postal Service. One depicts a resolute, flag-waving Uncle Sam watching over troops as they head into battle. The Women Support War Effort stamp shows Rosie the Riveter with sleeves rolled up and muscles flexed. A man in uniform studies on the GI Bill stamp. “During World War II, these individuals … really did save the world,” said Vice President Gore, who spoke at the unveling ceremony. “It was truly a battle between good and evil.” The first-class stamps go on sale in February.
