Suspect Sought In Shooting

From Staff

Police are looking for a Spokane man accused of shooting another man during an argument outside a West Central neighborhood apartment.

Officers were called to the apartment in the 1500 block of Augusta Avenue about 5 p.m.

A woman who lives there said Jeff L. Brinkley, 20, hit her and damaged the front door during an argument.

Brinkley had been living at the apartment for a month before he was kicked out by the woman’s boyfriend, Kenny Jay, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., police responded to a reported shooting at the apartment. The woman said Brinkley had returned and was outside shouting.

She said Jay, 27, ended the confrontation by firing a shotgun at Brinkley, who suffered arm and leg wounds, police said.

Brinkley was arrested on charges of assault and malicious mischief after being released from a local hospital Friday.

Jay is being sought on suspicion of first-degree assault. He is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 225 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about the incident or Jay’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
