Milltown

Commissioners will meet with residents Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. in the courtroom of the Benewah County Courthouse to discuss changing the names of five Milltown streets. The proposed change is to accommodate the new addressing scheme. First, Second, Third, Fourth and Lincoln streets in Milltown are duplicate names of streets in St. Maries, which could cause confusion in emergencies. The name changes would decrease confusion and speed the response of emergency crews.

BONNER COUNTY

Sandpoint

The Bonner Business Center recycling bay will present a guest workshop by Bob Kirby Thursday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Kirby will answer questions regarding mold making, fusing glass and other technical issues related to recycled glass. He will also discuss construction uses for recycled glass.

Bonners Ferry

Boundary County cross-country athletes Jarrod Ekstrom, Josh Sherven, Forest Braden and Aaron Hanson have qualified for the 20th Annual Footlocker West regional championship Dec. 5 in Walnut, Calif. They are in search of donations to help fund their trip. Collection cans are located in businesses throughout Boundary County, or interested persons can contact Sherven at (208) 267-2219.

Thanksgiving donations are being sought by the Coeur d’Alene Food Bank. The food bank has 300 requests for baskets for one to two people, four to six people and over six people. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is soliciting public input for the Forest Service strategic plan.

A revision is being developed for the year 2000. The goals of the 1997 plan were to ensure sustainable ecosystems, provide multiple benefits for people within the capability of those ecosystems and to ensure organizational effectiveness. Despite the closing of Memorial Gym, Flathead Valley Community College may choose to move the local campus to another location. The final decision on relocating the campus depends on cost. Ties between the local campus and an institution like FVCC will be necessary unless area taxpayers agree to fund an independent college with full local control.

WASHINGTON

PEND OREILLE COUNTY

Newport

If elections are over, why are Newport School Board members stumping at the local Safeway today? Hoping to persuade locals to attend Monday’s 6:30 p.m. levy meeting, the directors are distributing information on the district’s dismal financial situation. Directors plan to run a special levy to maintain present programs. The school suffers from a severe drop in student enrollment.

SPOKANE COUNTY

The Spokane County Air Pollution Control Authority is seeking applications for an open position on its advisory council. Applicants must have experience in agriculture. The advisory council helps SCAPCA carry out the purposes of the Washington Clean Air Act in Spokane County. For information call 477-4727.

WHITMAN COUNTY

The Bill Chipman Palouse Trail will be available for general public use through the winter season. Trail users should note that in winter months snow and ice may exist on the trail surface since snow removal will not be part of trail maintenance. Cross country skiing will be limited because of plowed intersections. Restrooms will remain in place and open throughout the winter season. For more information call (509) 397-6238.
