Albertson Foundation To Benefit State Schools

Millions of dollars in new technology will flow into Idaho schools early next year from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.

The state Board of Education on Thursday unanimously accepted a $28 million grant from the foundation created by the late supermarket magnate and his wife.

It will give each school district as much as $250,000 for new computers and training. The foundation also provided $325,000 for the state to hire three people to oversee the project.

Both grants are part of a $110 million gift to improve technology, reading programs and teacher standards that was announced in May.

The money must be used to enhance teaching in writing, reading, math and science.
