An employee at the Sears store at the Spokane Valley Mall was arrested Tuesday afternoon, accused of stealing $400 from a cash register.

Nicole L. Martindale, 18, of 623 S. Liberty Drive, was arrested on charges of first degree theft, which is a felony.

A Spokane County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call at 3:50 p.m.

A Sears security guard told the deputy he saw Martindale take $400 cash from a register and place it in a money bag.

The guard followed Martindale to the employee lockerroom, while another found the empty money bag under a different register.

The guard told Martindale he knew she had taken the money. He recovered the $400 cash from her locker.

A court date has not been set.
