Riverside Whitewashes Mt. Baker For Third Place In 2A Girls Soccer

Jamie Rizzuto and Larissa Mueller had one goal and one assist apiece as Riverside defeated Mt. Baker 4-0 in Saturday’s consolation final of the girls State 2A soccer tournament at Federal Way Stadium.

Tracy Koesel and Jami Baker also scored for Riverside (18-2-1).

The Rams, 1997 state champions, settled for third place.

Othello (20-1-1), which defeated Riverside in Friday’s semifinals, won the title by edging Sultan 1-0 in overtime.

Eric Johnson and Dan Dhillon scored as St. George’s (13-2-1) defeated Evergreen Lutheran 2-0 to place third in the boys State 1A/B tournament at Auburn.

Johnson beat a defender to score from 6 yards out near the midway point of the first half. Dhillon scored late with a shot that deflected off the Eagles goalkeeper.

Idaho football

Senior Josh Hull grabbed 13 passes for 196 yards and Shane Armstrong grabbed two of Eagle’s six interceptions as the Mustangs beat Blackfoot 21-6 Saturday for the State A-1 Division II high school title in Idaho State University’s Holt Arena at Pocatello.

Carey scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter before holding off a late Deary Mustangs’ rally to win the eight-man championship 44-42 at Pocatello.
