Vandals Lose Third Straight

Alli Nieman had season highs of 30 points and 11 rebounds, but the University of Idaho couldn’t hold onto its halftime lead, losing to Colorado 77-66 Friday at the Coors Classic in Boulder, Colo.

Idaho, which has lost three straight, dropped to 2-3. Colorado improved to 2-2.

“It was our game to win, but we didn’t execute very well under pressure, said Idaho coach Hilary Recknor, whose team led at halftime 32-31.

The Vandals were outrebounded for the fifth time this year, 42-32.

The Vandals play Miami (Ohio) today in the consolation game.

NIC 89, Blue Mountain 50

At Pendleton, Ore., Mandy Lindhe scored 14 points and Becki Huddle added 11 to lead the Cardinals past the Timberwolves in the season opener for both teams.

The game was close for the first 6 minutes until the Cardinals stepped up the defensive pressure and took control. Blue Mountain turned over the ball 37 times. Bianca Ryan had six steals for NIC.

Oregon St. 100, Eastern Washington 54

At Corvallis, five players scored in double figures as the Beavers (2-1) built a 49-26 halftime lead and coasted to victory in the Oregon State University Classic.

Senior guard Courtney Horner was 3 of 4 from 3-point range and led the Eagles with 14 points. EWU plays Ohio University in the consolation game today.

CCS 80, Olympic 59

Three Sasquatch guards combined for 46 points to lead CCS to an 80-59 win over Olympic Community College in the Bigfoot Tournament at SFCC.

Amy George led the guard attack with 17 points. Nicole Kleopfer and Karie Pruett added 15 and 14, respectively.

In the other game, Big Bend defeated Everett 69-59.
