Churches Begin Workshops, Classes
Now that school is well under way, it’s time for church classes to start up as well. First Presbyterian Church has two different offerings under way. A workshop titled “A Case for Christianity in a Post Modern World” on Oct. 16 and 17 will provide information on how Christianity differs from other religions.
The workshop begins with an introductory session from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 and continues from 8:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Oct. 17. The featured speaker is Michael McClymond, a professor of religious studies at St. Louis University.

First Presbyterian also resumes its Spokane City Forum lecture series Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. The featured speaker is the Rev. Robert Spitzer, the newly installed president of Gonzaga University.

First Presbyterian will also begin offering a third Sunday worship service this week. The new service begins at 7 p.m. each Sunday.
All of the events will take place at the church, 318 S. Cedar.
Parenting workshop
Family therapist John Baumann will present “Positive Discipline: A Parenting Workshop” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane. The workshop will emphasize relationships with children rather than specific discipline techniques. The cost is $30 and reservations must be received by Wednesday. What Kids Need to Succeed
Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, will offer a parenting class called “Christian Parenting: It Takes More than Love” during the month of October. The class will be held each Monday.
The class will focus on the book “What Kids Need to Succeed.” The book is $6. For more information, call the church office at 448-2909.
Addiction workshop at Central
Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, will offer a workshop on addictions called “The Money Pit: Compulsive Gambling, Spending, Shopping,” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop, lead by Christian counselor Kim Jones, will examine the causes and solutions.

Pet blessing service Saturday
All furry and feathered friends are welcome at the pet blessing service Saturday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The service, which commemorates the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, begins at 5:30 p.m. on the lawn. The service will move indoors if there is rain.
Bible study at Moran Prairie Grange
A Bible study class will be offered at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Moran Prairie Grange, 61st and Palouse Highway. The class will be offered each Sunday through Nov. 22. The class is offered by an unnamed nondenominational fellowship group.
Rummage sales this weekend
The women of Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th, will host their annual rummage and bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Everything from appliances to jewelry to jams and chocolate sauce will be available.
St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 708 E. Lake in Medical Lake will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
St. Stephen’s has also resumed its fall worship schedule. Worship services will now be offered at 8 and 10 a.m. each Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m.
