Firewood was not there for you to take
On Sept. 25, between 10 and 11 a.m., you helped yourself to some large pieces of cut-up firewood that were in a pile by the fence on Cannon Street, north of the alley between Augusta and Spofford. You did not ask for the wood and there was no sign saying “free wood.” This wood was from ice storm damage and had been laying outside the fence uncut until a couple of weeks ago. We could not put the wood inside the fence because a vehicle had to be removed first. Had you seen the uncut wood and thought that you would help yourself when it was cut up?
Do you go around and steal firewood from other people, too? There is always free firewood listed in the paper but is that too much work for you? You had to take from somebody else instead. You are a thief in no uncertain words.
I saw you leaving but I did not realize that you had taken the wood until a little bit later when I had to leave. You threw the small pieces around and left a mess for me to clean up.
I am a senior citizen and I had paid my grandson to cut up the wood for my use in my fireplace this winter. I am on a limited income and cannot replace this wood easily.
I would appreciate it if you would return the firewood that you took, with no questions asked. You must do lawn service because I saw mowing equipment in your trailer that you hauled the wood off in. Phyllis C. Coppinger Spokane
