A Helping Hand
A $6.5 million addiction recovery center underwritten by British rock star Eric Clapton will open in St. John’s, Antigua, today with promises to turn away no one who needs treatment. Clapton, who overcame drug and alcohol addiction in the 1970s, built the 36-bed Crossroads Centre of Antigua over the past five years. The Caribbean’s only such facility, it will offer an intensive 29-day recovery program for drug and alcohol addictions. Clapton, who has a residence in Antigua on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean not far from the treatment center, has said he will work directly with patients from time to time, drawing on his own experiences.
