Interstate 90 just east of Coeur d’Alene was shut down most of Monday evening after 12,000 pounds of fertilizer spilled on the roadway.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. at milepost 20 on I-90 when the driver of a fertilizer truck lost control of the vehicle, Idaho State Police said.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at Kootenai Medical Center, troopers said.

The roadway was shut down because fertilizer is considered a hazardous chemical, troopers said.
