Panhandle Picks With Greg Lee

You may not believe this, but a co-worker tried to get me to go out on a limb and pick Coeur d’Alene to upset Sandpoint last week.

Seriously. I have the e-mail to prove it. I should have listened to Dave Trimmer, our Greater Spokane League football guru.

Defending State A-1 Division II champ Sandpoint has taken a mighty fall. We suspect the Bulldogs will pull out of their nosedive Friday. More on that later.

I continue to bat an even .800. I picked 8 of 10 games last week, topping guest Jim Headley by one.

The scoreboard reads: Scribe 52 of 65, Guests 50 of 65 (.769).

My guest this week is Dick Haugen, the morning talking head at KVNI the past eight years. Haugen is spending his Friday nights in the booth with Jeff McLean.

Post Falls at Lake City: Let’s see. Lake City lost to Cheney then bounced back to pound Sandpoint.

Lake City lost to Lewiston last week. The Trojans will have to play error-free ball and the Timberwolves will have to play as they have both times they’ve lost for Post Falls to win.

Won’t happen. LC will eventually pull away from the scrappy Trojans. LC 28, Post Falls 13.

Guest: Big homecoming win for the Timberwolves. Big win last Friday for the Trojans. Big loss for the T-Wolves. The problem I see for the Trojans this week: Chad Troxel on offense and Justin Nipp and company on defense. For the Trojans to win, they need a big game from quarterback Chris Dreckman, tight end Eli Thornley and a couple of T-Wolf turnovers. LC 36, Post Falls 14.

Lewiston at Coeur d’Alene: The Vikings’ one-game winning streak comes to an end.

The Bengals do whatever they want. Lewiston 41, CdA 16.

Guest: Last Friday, the Vikings beat Sandpoint and Lewiston beat Lake City. Lewiston coach Nick Menegas’ program is too much for Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos’ program. Lewiston in a clean sweep over the CdA teams. Lewiston 35, CdA 14.

Sandpoint at Moscow: It’s time for the real Bulldogs to step up and salvage some pride for this proud program.

The Bears will provide a stiff test. But Sandpoint gets back on winning track. Sandpoint 24, Moscow 13.

Guest: The Bulldogs take losses to LC and CdA out on the Bears. Sandpoint to air it out while the Bears have no passing game. Sandpoint 27, Moscow 10.
