Wayside neighbors are holding an old-fashioned chili chow-down and cowboy hoedown Saturday to benefit the Wayside Community Center.

The fun begins at 4:30 p.m. with homemade chili, cornbread and apple crisp.

Entertainment starts at 7 p.m. when the crowd kicks back the chairs and kicks up its heels to a sampler of country and vintage music, mountain ballads and cowboy poetry. Tunes are provided by North Fork, featuring George Thompson and Sharon “Silver” Glenn.

One of the evening’s highlights will be the raffle of a luscious, triple-layer Hummingbird cake.

Admission is $6.

To reach Wayside, head north on Highway 395, turn left on Monroe Road and continue one mile to the community center.
