Grant Allows Abstinence Program To Expand

From Staff Reports

A program encouraging teens to abstain from sex will expand to four Spokane schools with a $10,000 grant awarded Wednesday by Group Health/Kaiser Permanente Community Foundation.

An abstinence program already in place at Shadle Park High School will grow to include North Central High School, Salk Middle School, Lewis and Clark High School and Glover Middle School.

Older students who have decided to abstain will mentor younger ones, under the theme of “If you do it, is it worth it?” They’ll develop a video, Web site and slide show.

Group Health and Kaiser Permanente are co-sponsors of the program.
