Republicans and Democrats agree on at least one thing: Youths should get involved in politics even if they can’t vote. A letter to Our Generation signed by the two parties’ chairmen invites students to take part in the excitement of helping someone run for political office. (Note: Election Day is Nov. 3.) The University of Puget Sound’s assistant admissions director will be at Medical Lake High School on Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. to answer student questions about the school, which is a private liberal arts college in Tacoma. For more information, call (800) 396-7191.

Colgate Youth for America has kicked off its 26th annual competition for local youth service projects. The competition is open to groups of the Boy and Girls Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Girls Incorporated, Camp Fire and 4-H.

Clubs have until March 15 to develop and execute programs of value to their communities and send their reports to the competition.

Entry forms are available at regional offices of the clubs or from the Internet at www.colgate.com. Winning projects receive cash grants up to $2,000.
