Man Shot During Roadside Argument

A Newport, Wash., man was shot late Saturday during a run-in that may have begun as road rage, sheriff’s deputies said.

The unidentified 19-year-old was treated for minor shotgun pellet wounds on his right thigh, deputies said.

The incident began about 10 p.m. Saturday. The victim was riding in the car of a 20-year-old friend. They were headed south on state Highway 2 near Farwell Road when someone in a Ford Bronco threw a bottle at the car, deputies said.

The driver of the car flashed his lights at the Bronco, which pulled over.

The Newport man demanded to know why a bottle was thrown at the car, and then a man stepped out from the truck holding a shotgun, deputies said.

The suspect hit the victim with the gun twice and fired the gun three times, shooting the victim in the leg, deputies said.

The shooter is described as white, 35 to 40 years old, 180 pounds with brown hair and a mustache. He wore blue jeans and a flannel shirt.

A passenger in the Bronco is described as a white woman in her early 30s with sandy blond hair and glasses.

The Bronco is described as a full-sized model, made between 1987 and 1992, navy blue with chrome mag wheels and oversized tires.
