Dalton For Auditor

If you’ve ever applied for a marriage license, paid for vehicle license tabs or registered to vote, you’ve interacted with the Spokane County auditor’s office.

The auditor does much more than these more visible functions, however. The auditor keeps tabs on county government’s money and how it is spent. Two candidates are vying for this important position. Republican Matt McCoy is a business development officer for United Parcel Service. Democrat Vicky Dalton is Spokane County’s internal auditor.

Though both candidates offer solid credentials and skills, our endorsement goes to Dalton. She has the right experience. Her decade as internal auditor gives her a running start in the new job.

She already excels at government-sector finance, and now can focus on learning, more fully, the auditor’s nonfinancial duties.

Though the job goes beyond accounting, Dalton’s CPA background is a plus. Her call for business plans and goals for each division - plus an emphasis on customer service - will help the auditor’s office in its ongoing pursuit of modernization and efficiency.
