By Michael Stine Kootenai County is important to me and my family. We have made it our home and invested every penny we had saved in doing so. For most people government happens around them and they do not become involved. It’s really sad, but true, and until government affects them directly it usually stays that way. I was no different. I must have gotten the “triple whammy.” A reopened gravel pit next to us; a commercial rezoning attempt on a property near ours; a light industrial rezoning, approved. What more would you need to wake you up? How about County Commissioners that do not care about people, yes, I saw it myself time after time and could not believe it. Imagine, elected officials who don’t care and are arrogant about it as well. Neighbors suggested I run for Commissioner, first I said no, then after further research, I found a “good ol’ boy network,” and I said yes. Important issues not being addressed the way people want, wasted tax dollars, and a lot more. A total can of worms. I feel that it is time for a change and I believe you do too. Let’s get back on track with “government for the people, by the people.” I have the business experience, life experience and the ability to solve problems to carry us into the future, but most important the desire to listen to you, the people. Although the task is large, I will make decisions toward the goals I’ve outlined in ads in the Nickel’s Worth. They include: representing the people, attracting higher paying jobs, using the comprehensive plan as intended, lowering taxes, protecting the aquifer and improving our quality of life. If elected, my door will always be open to the people, and phone calls to me will be returned if I am not able to receive them at once! The Commissioner position is a full-time position and it will have my full-time attention. Thank You!
