By Bob Huntley I would like to tell you about my stand on important Idaho issues, and why I would make a decisive governor for Idaho. I served on the Pocatello City Council and was instrumental in construction of the Pocatello Air Terminal. From 1982 to 1989, I was an Idaho Supreme Court justice. There I gained a broad perspective of the issues that concern the people of Idaho. I served in the Legislature and on its Revenue and Taxation Committee in the 1965 session when the 3-cent sales tax was passed for Idaho schools. Now I’m running for governor as a proven, decisive leader. Too many politicians refuse to state firm and clear positions on the issues important to Idaho voters. Idahoans deserve to know where a politician stands on important issues. For this reason I made it clear that I will rebuild Idaho schools so our children and economy will have a strong future. I will reduce the sales tax to 4 cents and cut 40 percent of the exemptions to help rebuild Idaho schools and highways. I will not eliminate the agricultural and business production exemptions because they are legitimate exemptions to a retail sales tax as distinguished from a wholesale sales tax. On the issue of abortion, the issue is who makes the decision. Not government, but the mother, the family, the doctors, and the religious advisors. I will veto any bill that attempts to turn that decision over to a male-dominated Legislature.
