‘Jacks Qualify For Playoffs

St. Maries earned a State A-2 playoff berth in easy fashion on Friday.

The playoff game itself won’t be as easy.

The Lumberjacks (7-2, 6-1 Intermountain League) completed league play with a 32-7 win at Bonners Ferry (5-4, 5-2). The winner was guaranteed a state berth.

St. Maries will open the state playoffs at noon next Saturday against top-ranked Weiser (9-0).

IML champion Lakeland will open the playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday at home in Rathdrum against Kuna (7-2). Kuna clinched a spot on Friday when Weiser eliminated Bishop Kelly 42-27.

The visiting Hawks (9-0, 7-0 IML) wrapped up their league title season by defeating the Wildcats (2-7, 2-5).

Kellogg’s Barry Absec completed 4 of 10 passes for 102 yards.

Falls Christian 57, Troy 6

Ben Danforth and Jared Bligh combined for 195 yards on 11 carries as the visiting Eagles (7-1) defeated the Trojans in a non-league game.

FC’s Aristo Arana added eight carries for 69 yards. Brandon Beck had 15 tackles and a sack, and Charlie Dowers had 16 tackles and two fumble recoveries for the Eagles.
