Tribe’S Plans For Gaming To Be Discussed

From Staff

The Washington State Gambling Commission staff will hold an informational meeting Wednesday on the Kalispel Tribe’s plans to offer casino-style gaming in Airway Heights.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. at the Days Inn, 4212 W. Sunset Blvd. It is open to the public.

The Kalispels and the state began negotiations last month to offer gambling in Airway Heights. Those negotiations should be done next week, said Amy Patjens, attorney and spokeswoman for the WSGC.

The Kalispels’ gambling compact with the state will be similar to the compacts 19 other Washington tribes have, Patjens said.

At most, the Kalispels could have 52 tables of various card games, roulette and craps.

Gambling Commission staff members will tell local elected officials about the compact and the laws that govern it. The public can attend and comment, but the meeting is not designed for testimony for or against the Kalispels’ proposal, Patjens said.
