A smoldering log ignited and burned four acres of forested land south of Liberty Lake Saturday.

State Department of Natural Resources officials believe the decomposing log had been smoldering since last Tuesday, when an unattended camp fire burned two acres on top of a ridge southeast of Broken Lance Drive.

The log was sitting about 20 feet outside of the original blaze’s fire line, DNR officials said.

DNR crews were called to the fire at about 8 p.m. They were assisted by Fire District No. 8.

No structures were damaged.
