Fisherman Presumed Drowned

Divers will continue their search today for the body of a 52-year-old Spokane man presumed drowned Monday.

The man, whose name was not released, was fishing on privately owned Mason Lake east of Sprague, Wash., when his boat capsized, said Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Dave Reagan.

“He was having problems with his boat motor,” said Reagan. “He was standing up, working on the motor and the boat tipped over.

“He apparently was a non-swimmer and was not wearing a life preserver.”

Reagan said the man’s wife and a friend saw the accident from the shore of the small lake and used another boat to search for the victim. They were unsuccessful, and reported the accident at 6:10 p.m.

Divers from the sheriff’s department searched for more than an hour, until darkness forced them to quit, said Reagan.
