Holocaust Remembered

Prize-winning director Steven Spielberg toured a former Nazi concentration camp Wednesday, one day before he is to receive a German medal for his filmmaking about the Holocaust. Spielberg, whose 1993 film “Schindler’s List” won seven Academy Awards, visited the Sachsenhausen camp in Oranienburg, about six miles from Berlin. Today, he is to be given the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit. The medal honors Spielberg’s Shoah Visual History Foundation, an archive of nearly 50,000 filmed interviews with Holocaust survivors, as well as “Schindler’s List,” the story of how a non-Jewish industrialist saved the lives of thousands of Jews during World War II.
