Schools overcrowded
I strongly support the action of the Central Valley School Board in recommending rebuild of both Central Valley and University high schools.
It’s time. The CV building is 42 years old and University is 36. They are outdated and overcrowded.
They are antiquated in capacity (both built for 800 students), energy inefficient (not a big factor when built) and technologically outdated.
As a small business owner and longtime resident of the area, I applaud our school board for their progressive thinking. The cost to us taxpayers is estimated to be only 57 cents per $1,000 of valuation.
My wife and I are graduates of CV - from long ago. We want our grandchildren and all the other children in the district to have the best education possible.
It’s the key to our future.
What better investment can we make in the future? I urge you to vote for the CV bond on Sept. 15. Len Bouge Veradale
9th-grade move bad
Your paper has published several Central Valley School Board public relations articles on the $98 million school tax. (That’s $78 million from the bond and another $20 million in state matching funds.)
This direction is so flawed it is impossible to believe it has been presented to the people to vote on.
The public must be made aware of the adverse effect of moving the 9th graders. Ralph Collins Spokane
Vote for better schools
In recent years, voters in this area have voted for bonds to construct and upgrade elementary and junior high school facilities in the Central Valley School District.
Now it is time to vote yes on the bond to construct new high schools that will provide enhanced learning environments for students attending Central Valley and University.
The existing high school buildings are badly overcrowded and lack the infrastructure needed to accommodate the technological advances associated with modern education.
We strongly urge all Valley residents - especially teachers and parents of students of all ages - to go to the polls on Sept. 15 and vote “yes” in the high school construction bond election. Bill and Sue Duffy Spokane
Back our grandkids
We’re all aware that the senior citizen vote is the largest voting block in Spokane, as well as the nation.
Now once again all of us senior citizens have the chance to show our support of the youngest generation by going to the polls and voting “yes” on the school bond issue.
People keep moving in. Our high schools are so overcrowded, plus we should have four-year high schools like the rest of the state of Washington.
So let’s all back our grandkids and great-grandkids on Sept. 15. They’re sure worth it! Ron and Sally Jackson Spokane
Tax rate still low
I would like to express my support for the upcoming vote on the CV bond issue, which involves replacing both Central Valley and University high schools with more modern facilities and safer campuses.
In addition, both students and the community will have access to much needed technology centers, additional gymnasiums and auditoriums.
More importantly, by building facilities that will accommodate student growth and allow for the incorporation of ninth-grade students into the high school setting, the bond should minimize funding requirements needed for junior high expansion in the future.
Even with approval of this bond proposal, Central Valley School District will continue to have one of the lowest tax rates in Spokane County!
Please support our community’s children and vote “yes” on Sept. 15. Sharon Matthews Liberty Lake
Time to rebuild
It’s time to take a stand for our children and community by rebuilding our high schools.
There is no doubt in my mind that both Central Valley and University high schools are worn out and in need of new wiring, plumbing and heating, not to mention technology.
Both schools have served for approximately 40 years without major modernization.
Each day over 1,200 students move through crowded halls that were designed for 800.
It is time to rebuild our schools. The longer we wait, the more it will cost. Tony Higley Spokane
