Skateboard Collision Escalates To Stabbing

A Coeur d’Alene man was stabbed in the chest Friday night after his skateboard slipped out from under him and hit another man in the leg, police reported.

Ryan F. Gilliard, 22, was treated at Kootenai Medical Center and released.

Gilliard was riding his skateboard down Sherman Avenue about 11:30 p.m. when he passed the Iron Horse at 407 E. Sherman, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

David Michael Kohler, 28, also of Coeur d’Alene, was leaving the tavern when Gilliard rode by. Gilliard’s skateboard hit Kohler in the shin and a fight began, police said.

Gilliard was stabbed at least twice with a folding knife with a 4-inch blade, police said.

Kohler was booked into the county jail on suspicion of aggravated battery.
