Utility Work To Slow Traffic For A Month

From Staff

Utility improvements will snarl downtown traffic for a month, beginning Monday.

Crews, paid by Washington Water Power Co., will tear up streets to improve gas lines near the River Park Square construction site.

The construction should be completed by Oct. 9, said Annie Matlow, spokeswoman for the Downtown Spokane Partnership. “It’s part of the price of progress,” she said.

The Post Street Bridge southbound will be closed, and Monroe Street southbound near Spokane Falls Boulevard will be shrunk from four lanes to two.

Spokane Falls Boulevard is also being reduced from four lanes to one between Lincoln and Post streets near City Hall.

Matlow suggests drivers avoid Spokane Falls Boulevard downtown, and use the Monroe Street Bridge instead of Post.

The River Park Square parking garage remains open and accessible, Matlow said.
