Barenaked Ladies “Stunt”

I have never been a fan of music made after 1980, simply because more often than not music has regressed to a state of garble and incoherent mumbling with hideous bass tones overriding any form of music that may be hidden in the confusion.

However, with “Stunt” by the Barenaked Ladies, I found actual music coming from my speakers. The first track alone made me want to get up and jump around.

What makes this album excel is, of course, the band. This Canadian entourage has been around their home country for quite a few years, and with this album they hope to strengthen their American presence.

This band seems to fit no basic classification; I almost started looking for the CD in the comedy section of the record store. Their songs are happy, and that’s something I’ve been looking for in modern music for a long time.

Also, I can understand the lyrics. It’s so amazing to find out the song you hear has a story behind it. Or maybe a message, although I couldn’t really find any pointed messages they are conveying, except to always have fun.

Everything about this album is good. The interesting songs flow from one to another perfectly. The music is happy.

Finally, after so much monotonous drab on the radio, I can listen to something worthwhile.
