Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest

A South Side man was arrested last week on suspicion of drug possession.

Officers made a routine traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. last Thursday at Fifth and Cook. The car was missing a taillight, police said.

A passenger, who gave police a false name, was identified as Ferman E. Drewery, 20, who gave his address as 4004 E. Fifth. Drewery was found to have an outstanding warrant and was booked into jail.

When he was jailed, officers found two baggies of drugs, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Drewery attempted to swallow one of the baggies, Cottam said, but jailers recovered it.

Drewery was booked on a charge alleging possession of cocaine and methamphetamine.
