Comment Sought On Solid Waste Rules
The public is being asked to comment on proposed rules that would make it easier to recycle and reuse solid waste in Washington.
Three meetings will be in Eastern Washington next week to discuss the regulations.
“Our goal is to update the regulations … while making sure that questionable activities aren’t being conducted under the guise of recycling,” said Michael Hibber of the Department of Ecology’s regional office in Spokane.
Earlier this year, the Legislature directed Ecology to deregulate activities that beneficially use solid waste, such as applying waste to land to improve soil conditions.
The meetings are:
Monday at Ecology’s regional office in Spokane, 4601 N. Monroe, 3-5 p.m.
Tuesday in East Wenatchee at Douglas County Fire District No. 2, 377 N. Eastmont Ave., 3-5 p.m.
Wednesday in Kennewick at Ecology’s Nuclear Waste Program office, 1315 W. 4th, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
