ADAMS COUNTY Othello
Today is your last chance to take in the sights and sounds of the Adams County Fair. The rodeo parade starts at 10 a.m., followed by the annual livestock sale. Exhibits and booths will be open all day, with rodeo action and live music starting as the sun sets.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 9 and younger.
FERRY COUNTY Republic
Although it no longer operates a golf course, the Republic Golf Club recently made $8,000 in charitable donations. The golf club still owns the original Republic Golf Course land, which now houses local schools and athletic fields. The group manages the land with profits going to community causes.
This year donations were given to the Ferry County Fair Association, Republic Cemetery Association, and Friends of the Library Building Fund.
GRANT COUNTY Ephrata
A pipe bomb was detonated by the Army explosives disposal team in the Ephrata Cemetery recently. The plastic PVC pipe, filled with gun powder but no shrapnel, was found under a tree. It was set off without incident after sandbags were placed around it. Residents of Fifth Southwest Street were evacuated before the blast. Bomb remnants are being investigated.
LINCOLN COUNTY Odessa
As school began in the Odessa School District, administrators counted 357 students passing through the doors. This number is up from last year’s 340 kids on opening day.
Breaking the numbers down, 148 students reported to grades K-5, with 96 students in the middle school and 113 in the high school.
PEND OREILLE COUNTY Diamond Lake
It’s “diver down” for residents who want to rid the lake of Eurasian milfoil. A noxious weed threatening to choke the lake, milfoil will be uprooted by volunteer divers Sunday. The homeowners association will pick up the tab for scuba gear.

SPOKANE COUNTY Spokane
Spokane County Public Works staff won first place from the national City/County Communication and Marketing Association for its work on the Vision Wall program used to gather community input for the Growth Management Act plan.
It received second place for its computer-animated video showing what it will be like driving the planned Valley Couplet.
STEVENS COUNTY Colville
Local police are looking for leads in a rash of business burglaries. Panorama Video, Farmer’s Supply Inc. and Hedrick’s Floral Greenhouse were recent victims, Hedricks for the second time in less than a month.
At Farmer’s Supply, intruders pulled up metal siding to gain access. Once inside, they took pocketknives and $300. The money was from Northeast Washington Fair ticket sales. The store manager said he’d reimburse the fair immediately.
WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman
Washington State University professor Phillip Senger is this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award from the American Society of Animal Sciences. The national honor was announced last month at the society’s annual meeting in Denver. He was honored in 1995 with WSU’s Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award.

BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries
Police are questioning two juveniles in the burglary and vandalism of the liquor store in St. Maries Aug. 21. An anonymous caller told police of the boys’ alleged involvement in the crime. The two boys also may have been involved in the theft of radios from the school district the same day.
If prosecuted and convicted, the boys could be sent to juvenile detention, put on probation, fined or be required to perform community service work.
BONNER COUNTY Sandpoint
A benefit concert to raise awareness of the proposed Rock Creek Mine near Noxon, Mont., which would be the largest silver and copper mining operation in North America, will be Oct. 30. Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne will perform in the Sandpoint Middle School Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Danny O’Keefe will open for Brown.

The Bonners Ferry Writers Group meets the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month at the Boundary County Library. Writers are given a chance to compare notes with other writers in the community.

LATAH COUNTY Moscow
University of Idaho senior and Moscow native Laura Crossler has received a national scholarship from Sigma Alpha Iota, the international fraternity for women in music.
One of only 10 awarded in the nation, the scholarship is based on leadership, scholastic achievement, musical ability and contribution to campus and community life.
Pursuing a double major in horn performance and music education, Crossler is a fifth-year member of the Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, UI Orchestra and the UI Wind Ensemble. She also sings in several college and church choirs.

The Spokane Inland Northwest Blood Drive is coming to Kellogg on Tuesday. The Kellogg blood drive will be at the Kellogg Elks Lodge from 12:30-5:30 p.m.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby
The state political commissioner ruled that campaign laws were not broken by Libby Citizens for Education and Libby Middle School teacher Marlene Kelsch.
The committee had been suspected of coercing school district employees to vote for a $400,000 levy. Voters passed the levy on Feb. 24.
